Halloween Candy Tips

Halloween is one of the most fun holidays of the year – especially for your little boys and ghouls. As a dental office, we would like to bring awareness to the different types of candy your child might receive this  Halloween. Use these tips as you are sorting through your little one’s treats this year.

IF IT IS STICKY – BE PICKY

Sticky candy is one of the worst types of candy for your teeth. Sticky candy is typically harder to remove leading it to stay on your teeth longer. This gives cavity-causing bacteria more time to work.

BE CAUTIOUS OF HARD CANDY

We typically keep hard candies in our mouths longer. This allows for the sugars from the candy to wash around our teeth for an extended amount of time. Also, DO NOT try to bite down on hard candy. This can break your teeth!

PASS ON THE PUCKER

Sour candies are typically coated in sugar and highly acidic. Acid can breakdown the hard exterior shell of your teeth and lead to cavities.

CHOCOLATE IS BEST

Chocolate is one of the easiest candies to get off of your teeth. Dark chocolate is especially recommended since it is lower in sugar than milk chocolate.

DRESS UP. HAVE FUN. ENJOY.

You can have your candy and eat it too! Just remember these tips to help protect your teeth. As always, be sure to brush and floss two times a day!!
