To repair small cavities or cracks we often use a ceramic filled tooth-colored material. This material is also used to replace small silver fillings that are leaking or have cracked. These fillings blend in naturally, and because they are bonded to the teeth with strong adhesives they actually help strengthen the teeth.

Veneers are thin, custom-made pieces of porcelain that are usually bonded to a portion of the tooth. Crowns surround the entire tooth and can be made of porcelain, metal, or a combination of both. Some of the most common reasons that a tooth would need a veneer or crown are if the tooth has a large filling that is failing, if there are multiple cracks, or if it has broken or as significant wear that exposes the softer dentin inside the tooth. In these cases there may not be enough healthy tooth structure left to support a filling long-term. However, they can be restored with a crown or veneer. Crowns and veneers can also be a preventive dental treatment. By restoring a tooth before it hurts or breaks we are able to fix it with a minimum amount of treatment. Crowns and veneers can protect and cover worn areas and reinforce cracked teeth If teeth are lost from trauma, or if they never developed from birth, they can be replaced with an implant or a bridge. A bridge uses the teeth on both sides of the missing tooth to support a replacement tooth. The bridge is bonded into place just like a crown. This prevents the teeth from shifting and allows you to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. |
