The bacteria that lives below the gums can reach a depth that is impossible for a patient to clean by themselves. We offer deep cleaning procedures such as scaling and root planing to remove the bacteria and calculus (also known as tartar) below the gums. When performing this procedure we often prescribe an oral antibiotic or place an antibiotic directly below the gums to aid healing.

Regular care can help avoid pain, prolong the life of your teeth and reduce the cost of your dental care. - Regular, thorough exams - Oral cancer screening - Fluoride treatments Periodontal procedures deal with the supporting gums and bone of the teeth. If plaque stays around the gums and teeth for a prolonged period of time the bacteria works its way below the gums, forms a home called tartar, and can cause a chronic infection called periodontitis. As your body tries to fight the bacteria in this area inflammation occurs followed by bone loss. Without treatment a tooth can lose so much bone that it becomes mobile and will be lost.
